The construction of the Port of Patimban represents a significant step forward in Indonesia’s efforts to modernise its logistical infrastructure and support economic growth. Situated approximately 145 kilometres from Jakarta, the new port is designed to alleviate congestion at the Port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta and to support Indonesia’s growing export needs, particularly for automotive and container shipments.
The port is being developed in several phases, with the first phase having been completed and inaugurated in December 2020 by President Joko Widodo. The port covers a total area of 654 hectares, with 300 hectares being dedicated to intermodal containers and vehicle terminals. Upon full completion by 2027, the port will have a capacity of 7.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), making it one of the largest ports in Indonesia.
DEME started its dredging project at the end of August 2024. We are carrying out dredging operations to deepen the port’s access channel. For DEME, this project represents a key milestone as it not only enhances our operational capabilities but also strengthens our commitment to local community engagement. Furthermore, it marks a notable step for our team in Indonesia, particularly following the reflagging of our trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Brabo’ to the Indonesian flag. We are excited to be training a dedicated Indonesian crew and fostering the exchange of knowledge and expertise between our experienced team and the new crew.
We look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the region’s economy and the opportunities it will create for future collaborations.
