DEME was tasked with the dredging and dry earthmoving works for the extension of the GVZ Bremen (Güterverkehrszentrum / Cargo Handling Centre).

Solution
Before the reclamation works could start several dykes had to be built out of the existing clay from the original ground level. Additionally, a floating and landline of around 2.2 km, including a pipe bridge over the main street, had to be constructed.
For the extension, our TSHD ‘Breydel’ had to dredge 820,000 m³ of sand in the outer Weser and this was transported approximately 100 km to the Neustädter Hafen.
After completion of the reclamation works, the dry sand had to be profiled in line with the final design. Furthermore, we were responsible for building all of the required construction roads.
Our scope consisted of:
- Dredging and reclamation of 820,000 m³ of sand.
- Dry earthmoving works totalling 50,000 m³.
- Profiling the sand according to the given planning.
- Asphalt works.
